Young Persons Organ Day

The Cathedral will team up with the Lichfield and District Organists’ Association (LDOA), supported by the Royal School of Church Music, to provide young musicians with the opportunity to explore the ‘King of Instruments’.

Young people can look forward to playing Lichfield Cathedral’s historic organ, explore behind the scenes and enjoy interactive science experiments. The popular event is open for boys and girls between 10 and 14 years old and all abilities are welcome.

Cathedral Organist, Martyn Rawles, says: “The Young Persons’ Organ Day is about introducing young people to the organ. It’s hands-on, they get to see how it works up close, hear it in concert at full blast, and much more. Assembling pipe organs was a particular highlight for the children last year!”

The workshops will be led by experienced teachers from Lichfield Cathedral School, Lichfield Cathedral, Excel Music Schools, and members of the LDOA.

Places are just £3 and there are a limited number available. Previous years have been oversubscribed, so early booking is advised. You can register your interest on the Cathedral website at
