Minster memorial to sacrifice of war offers hope for the future

A unique memorial to the sacrifice of members of Southwell Diocese in war, from the outbreak of World War 1 to the present day, has been installed in Southwell Minster, and will be dedicated at a special service on Sunday 10th July.

Italian choir on twin-towns tour

An exciting Italian choir and ensemble - Pueri Cantores della Basilica Cattedrale di Sarzana -are visiting locally, staying with members of the Southwell and Sarzana Twinning Association and performing in a variety of venues while they are here.

Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday will be an extra special occasion this year in the Minster. The service on Sunday 15th March at 3.30pm will be sung by the Girls' Choir, in celebration of their 10thanniversary.

Book Launch One Bread

Preparing children for Holy Communion is the theme of a new book written by Diocesan Children’s Ministry Adviser, Nick Harding, with Sandra Miller, which was launched at the Cathedral Bookshop last week.

Easter Events

Further to the recent release re Easter Services in Southwell Minster, the Maundy Thursday service is at 8pm not 7.30pm for the Sung Eucharist (with Washing of Feet, Stripping of the Altars and Vigil of Prayer - relating to The Last Supper).

Tree Error

An error in the quantity of trees ordered for a WW1 heritage hedgerow planting on March 21st at St Mary’s Church Lowdham, has resulted in a rather nice problem for the local community, and a special guest line up for the event. The 100-yard hedgerow will be dedicated to those from the village who lived, worked, fought and died in the First World War.

RIBA Awards

The Palace Ruins & Great Hall of the former Archbishops of York in Southwell has been shortlisted for a 2015 RIBA East Midlands Award. These Awards are given annually to the best new buildings in East Midlands and across the rest of the United Kingdom.

Lent Press Release

Lent talks in the City

A series of talks which explore five important issues facing British society today will take place on Thursdays during Lent at St Peter’s Church, Nottingham.

The talks range from Alzheimer’s to asylum seekers, the future of Europe to environmental challenges.

Each talk will begin at 12.30; a light buffet lunch will be available from 12.00 (donations invited to cover costs). The talks will be followed by questions and discussion, ending at 1.30pm at the latest. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
